So the story goes like this: We were originally just planning to casually check out a dive shop and ended up at this one. When we wandered into the fishing section, we randomly asked if they had any fishing rod recommendations ?. That’s when we met this super awesome staff guy, Noah (who’s actually a fishing legend). We’re total beginners at fishing, but he patiently explained everything to us and even wrote down the key things we needed to know. ?️When we finally decided to buy a beginner’s rod, he even helped us assemble it. He was so nice! I could really feel his passion and expertise.❤️

Later, we heard that some of the staff were going fishing with their friends that evening, so we joined them at a nearby beach. They taught me, step by step, how to catch my very first fish! It was amazing! We even turned the catch into a feast that same day!

This shop definitely made my trip extra special! The atmosphere there is so relaxed, friendly, and professional. I would’ve seriously regretted it if I hadn’t walked into this place! If you’re traveling here, you have to check out this shop and chat with the staff!

We stopped by S. Tokunaga Store on the Big Island and were blown away! They’ve got everything you could need, and you can tell they really know their stuff. We originally just stopped by to look around with zero fishing experience, but Noah, one of the super friendly staff, helped us pick out some fishing rods and gear, considering what would work well together for beginners and keeping the prices well within our budget—completely stress-free!

That alone would’ve been amazing, but then Noah even offered to take us fishing after he and his colleagues got off work! As beginners, this was incredibly helpful. That night, we caught our very first fish, learned some basic skills like catching live bait, tying lines, and casting.
Cannot imagine any better experience beyond this.

This store has a ton of fishing gear and clothing apparel for fishing. We found some great Hawaii shirts here and will definitely be back. Glad we drove over from Mauna Kea.

Went in for the first time today to buy some swimming fins. They had a fairly good selection of different sizes of fins, ranging from short bodyboarding or body surfing fins to medium-sized snorkel and scuba fins all the way up to long freediving style fins. They even had one or two different kids/keiki sized fins.

I talked to a knowledgeable employee there who helped me decide on the type and size of fin. I just checked online, and the price is within a couple dollars of the Amazon price for the same type and model of fins. I recommend this store if you're looking for a wide selection of fins / flippers in Hilo.

The same day, I also checked Target and Walmart in Hilo, which have a decent selection of lower end fins. I ended up going with the ones from Tokunaga, because they were the most comfortable.

Best Store for all your fishing & hunting needs on the big Island and being a long time (52 years) customer ever since their downtown Hilo Store operated by Ethel (mom) they have grown to where they are with Michael (Mike) sole belief in taking care of customers and offering what customers needs are. Solid staff whom share same belief of customer service, however, Mike hope your listening, an extra mahalo to Matt, Eric and Keen (Firearms, Fishing department) going over and beyond customer service and extending their “Aloha”. Matt extension of this “Aloha” and customer service shall keep me as a loyal customer as did with Ethel, Mike over the years I’ve been a customer. I rarely write reviews but wanted to share this with all customers whom are in need of fishing, hunting, diving and accessories. Their selection is unbelievable at best! Mahalo!

Wow.... LOVE this shop. Just about everything a sportsman can want. Picked up a new headlamp for exploring the lava tube caves, picked up 2 knives for cutting pineapple and mangos. Love this shop. Great prices! Very cool staff too!
