Mr. Pequot was wonderful in helping me locate a local blacksmith to do a custom project for me. He took time to answer all my question and even gave me more information about some regional schools that still teach skills like blacksmithing for my son. Wonderful gentleman and awesome store/workshop/classroom!

Cliff Pequet runs this, and a visit to the center was a history lesson that I will never forget. His knowledge about shoemaking and other traditional arts is phenomenal, and he is both fascinating and kind. The center is filled with many unique artifacts that span centuries, including six-inch red high heels of the 1940s and a 19th century swords with a hilt covered in stingray skin. In addition, he makes belts, purses and custom shoes. For me, this center is the gem of Shipshewanna. Donations are accepted but not demanded. Don't miss it or the other unique business on the streets off the main tourist drag.
