My boyfriend and I were passing through with our travel trailer and a tire fell off. We would have had to drive more than 2 hours away to get the parts, Alturas tire shop was the only place in town that had the parts we needed. They were friendly and helpful and we wouldn’t have made it on our hunting trip if it wasn’t for them! Awesome place and people!

The bad reviews you’ll read on here are 100% accurate. They are unethical and rude. They cut corners and I wouldn’t trust their work. Les Schwab is just up the street and 100 times better. I honestly don’t know how they haven’t been shut down.

Read the Other Reviews, you basically have a 50/50 chance here. If you're friends with the people who work there, your vehicle will get excellent service, if they don't know who you are, Horrible Service. They HAVE HORRIBLE COMMUNICATION SKILLS, also they charge $150 per hour just for shop fee on top of Labor, Parts, Taxes, etc., sure they can fix a tire, but Les Schwab is 100 Times Better, just up the Street a few blocks past train tracks.

For Auto Repair, I suggest Walton's Auto Care - (1002 Maple St, Alturas, CA 96101) across the way behind Valero (Mini-Mart), way more PROFESSIONAL!

Kim at the front desk is rude and fake. I was told it might be possible to do payments on my tires and then later when they put them on they wanted it all up front. Didn't tell me a total price so it was double what I was expecting. Kim acted like I'm some homeless person who doesn't have a job and can't pay when she never told me a total before mounting. I refuse to go back here I know they already don't like me there and think they can act however they want. Well I hope people read this before going there, they will treat you like a POS if you don't have the unforeseen total amount. And then to top it off when you say nicely maybe you should tell people at least ball park range of price before telling them they have to pay now without payments. Rusty the owner tells me angrily well we can take the tires off. Yeah disrespect only gets you so far... Anyone who sees this go to les Schwab or out of town. Also took off my lug nut locks without asking and never replaced them or the 4 lug nuts that they pounded off... Unprofessional and ridiculous at the front desk both sides sad excuse for a tire shop.
Don't even have the tire keys that they should. lmfao but they sure can charge to rip them off and not replace new lug nuts. Sad stuff. Guess that's the best you can get in a small town..

Alturas Tire Shop was included in our annual Christmas letter...here's where they played a role in our summer travels...A stop at Subway for lunch became our last adventure...the battery light came on in our 2007 Rav 4. Next to the sandwich shop was an auto place. Our alternator was failing. We could chance it and head into the heat of Nevada and Arizona, or have it replaced. We decided on the latter. We had to stay the night so we found a quaint hotel housed with little visitors, ants, and camped there for the night. We paid for the alternator and labor. It was later discovered that the radiator had a leak too. A new radiator was 200+ miles away so the owner stayed hours after closing repairing it the best he could. Due to quick fix to get us on our way he refunded us $170 because "we do better quality than this!" Alturas Tire Shop took incredible care of us. A refund at an automotive business, really...only God! We give them 6/5 stars...great job!!!

By far the worst auto repair service I have ever had the displeasure of dealing with. Dishonest, unethical, and deliberate harm inflicted on persons deemed non-locals. A summary follows:

On or about May 8, 2020, my 2002 Mitsubishi broke on Highway 395 - 900 miles from my residence. Pioneer Towing was timely, professional, and very helpful So when the Recommended Alturus Tire and Auto Repair in Alturas, CA to repair my case, I contacted them on a Saturday, May 9, 2020. I was told Pioneer knew where to drop the car and keys. I was given a 10:00 a.m. appointment for Monday, May 11 and assured an estimate would be performed at that time.

On Monday, May 11, I was given the run around. I was able to get an estimate on Tuesday, May 12 and authorized the work, totaling $540 be performed. The labor estimate was only 3 hours and I was told the vehicle would be ready by the close of business. At the agreed upon pickup time, I was told they had to order parts and they would be in in a day or two. Two days latter, I confirmed that parts were in.\

Through May 18, I kept being told to call back. I ultimately had to rent a car and drive to San Diego, as repairs were not performed. I was assured I would be called when the work was completed. I contacted Alturas Tire and Auto Repair from San Diego on May 21 and May 29. I relayed I would be picking up my grandson in Alturas on June 5. I was assured my car would be ready by June 5.

On June 5, 2020 I found my vehicle in the weeds behind the shop. No work had been performed. It was blocked in by other vehicles. I was told Rusty was handling the repair and would be in between 2 and 3 p.m. I called shortly before 3 p.m. and was told by a different person that Rusty was home sick. I relayed that I was told he would be in between 2 and 3. I was then told to call back at 4:30 p.m. and maybe Rusty would be there.

I was upset and asked what was going on, it had been a month and over 3 1/2 weeks since the parts were in. I confirmed it would only require 3 hours of labor to repair my car. I asked and it was confirmed that I was on a back burner and they would repair it when the got around to it and felt it. I inquired so, are you saying if you get around to it in the next year or so you will repair it - if not it is my problem I was told that's about it. I advised that I would need to pick up the car on Monday and remove it from their shop for repairs.

I called back at 4 p.m. and talked to the lady I usually talk to. She told me she had the man answer because she saw it was me calling. She lied and said she heard what he said, and he never said I was on a back burner or it would be repaired when the got around to it. I repeated the actual conversation and she said "well that is not what he meant." He meant we do what we feel like and your not going to control us. I asked why they were treating me the way they had. She said she was not going to talk to me any further, pickup my car if I want to.

I inquired about the two tows - while paid by AAA, they came off my account and are valued at over $200 each, leaving me with only 1 tow through October, as well has mistreatment.

The lady told me they go through his all the time - with multiple people and nothing would come of it. Apparently they treat multiple people with intentional fraud by promising to perform repairs then not doing so and think they are above the law - as well as any moral or ethical behavior duties to those that rely upon their representations. I was told there is nothing I could do nothing about it.

At that time, It was also falsely alleged that I had signed a work order which listed no date the repair would be completed. I authorized repairs telephonically. Did they forge a signature - or did she mean she signed the work order? Any omissions from any work order was done maliciously by Alturas Tire and Auto Repair as they admitted multiple times of treating the consumer in similar fashion as I was treated.

They are for fantastic the most knowlegabale and helpful people I have ever encountered. I was afraid to drive my car any distance and really had to they went out of there way to fix a problem I have tried to have fixed for years. They did it in 15 minutes so now I can feel safe driving I'll be back next week to get the rest of my car checked
