So happy that this has opened in Columbia City! It's a clean, upbeat, yet relaxing atmosphere, and I love that they have Jenga set out to play. I love coffee, but nursing a caffeine-sensitive baby, I need to drink decaf, and they have been able to accommodate my need without any loss of good taste. I feel like they know me here!

A tasty spot and nice place to dine in. Baked goods were delicious. Plenty of seating. Staff was working hard and did great! I had a yummy cappuccino. My spouse didn’t love the cinnamon flavoring of her drink, but that’s personal preference. Would certainly come back. Also, 5-star (indie) music playlist.

Five Lakes is one of the newer coffee spots in Columbia City, and while it has potential, it doesn’t quite hit the mark for me. The location is convenient, and the service has been friendly enough, so no complaints there. The space itself has a clean, modern feel, making it a decent place to grab a quick cup or settle in for a bit—if you’re not too particular about what’s in your cup. My main issue is with the menu. It’s not that a smaller selection is inherently bad, but when the limited options seem to funnel customers toward expensive lattes that don’t deliver on flavor, it raises some questions. A solid coffee shop should be able to balance quality and variety, and unfortunately, Five Lakes leans more on the side of upselling rather than offering a truly standout coffee experience. As You’ve Got Mail so perfectly put it, “The whole purpose of places like Starbucks is for people who have no decision-making ability whatsoever to make six decisions just to buy one cup of coffee.” The problem here is that Five Lakes doesn’t even give you that many decisions—just a handful of choices, with the most expensive ones being the most pushed. If they reassess their approach and put more focus on making those pricey drinks worth the cost, they could become a real staple in town.

I had a fresh brewed light roast Ethiopian coffee. It was incredible. Everyone is friendly. Such a great atmosphere for a meeting or to get some work done. I will be a regular!

They messed up my order, but we’re more friendly and accommodating than anybody else is today gave me more than I could possibly ask for in-service. I am very happy. The drinks are great and the people are great.

Told the barista to surprise me, and I was surprised with a delicious drink and an amazing breakfast bagel. Atmosphere is lively and well lit, bagel was hot and fresh. No complaints at all, will be coming here more often
