Hale Nalu helped make my transition to O'ahu a pleasant & memorable experience. I started out browsing then I purchased some cool stickers then I discovered a used classic Ford Taurus folding bike. I was hooked. I returned to purchase another bike and Derek showed me the bike of my dreams. A red TERN folding bike. This bike has been the best investment I have made since being on this island.
It was technically used ,but brand spanking NEW in MY eyes. I call it my lil Red Lamborghini.

Spent a week in Makaha and wish we had stayed our whole trip there. Derek and the staff at Hale Nalu are the best. Dropped the paddle board up to us. Next time I’ll be getting a surf lesson. The Aroha/Aloha for not only customers but the ocean and local area alone makes you want to come back. All your surf & bike needs and local knowledge.
Stop in , you won’t be disappointed

Surf ?‍♀️ ? and bike ? shop with a super friendly and helpful owner who goes out of his way to make sure you are happy. Specially:
He let the boys pick out their own boards and then come back and trade them for different boards when they wanted to try something else.
Suggested local beaches and instructor/lessons that were available, but wasn’t pushy.
Made sure that the boards fit into the minivan and showed us how to stack them to protect the car and fins.
Had very reasonable, posted prices.
Made sure he was open on a holiday (day our flight was) so that we could maximize our surfing time, which we so appreciated, Mahalo!
Gave us location and parking tips for surfing at Waikiki.

Amazingly helpful store with really friendly, knowledgeable staff. Owner helped me fix my tight hydraulic disk brakes and recommended a few fixes for my problems. Great prices! Definitely check them out for a new bike also their used bike section has the occasional gem! Thanks hale nalu!

These guys were genuinely incredible, the manager/ owner went above and beyond to make sure we had a good time and deserve to be the best store in Oahu.
This isn’t a review where we get rewarded for writing something nice, it was genuinely such a good experience that I feel compelled to let everyone know that if you need to rent any gear in Oahu then this is the place.

Bought a used Mongoose mountain bike from here. Derek and Donna are both very nice and helpful people. The bike was in really good shape and at a fair price. They sell a bunch of other cool gear as well. Very pleased with my purchase and will be coming back for more gear. Highly recommend this place to people looking to shop local and looking for quality at a reasonable price.

Great shop for many outdoor activities; biking, surfing, snorkelling etc. Derek was super friendly and knowledgeable about the local area. Really enjoyed chatting with him! Was great to meet him and check out his shop. We will be back again.

I was in need of a rash guard “swim shirt” and a cheap pair of shades for the beach and they had both and tons of selection for both items I needed. I don’t suggest wearing your high end shades to the beach as the mist off the ocean from the wind cakes on the lenses and it’s awful getting them clean. The owner is really nice and very helpful. If you have a bad experience here that’s a you problem. Finally it’s a one way entrance/exit. They will open the gate for you when you leave so getting in and out is really easy.
