Do not go to adopt a cat if you are going to let it outside. It is to be inside 100% of the time ( stated by a staff member). This needs to be on the website in BOLD letters. My cats are allowed outside to some degree, so I was denied an adoption. I have cat doors that they can enter anytime during the day and they are locked in at night. Currently my cat is not allowed outside because of too many wild animals in our town. I live on two plus acres and have animal friendly neighbors. My current cat loves to help me weed around my house in nice weather. Staff was very rude when I wouldn't agree to a 100% indoor adoption and adoption was denied. If I lived in an apartment, had close neighbors, or lived on a busy road I would agree with their decision but none of these apply to me.
To the staff member that said cats are very bad for the environment. Well, humans are the most destructive.
I appreciate what this facility is doing. I am glad you are present in Richmond. But not everything is black and white.
Apologies to the cat I had picked out. She has been there for 10 months, was scared seemed to be antisocial and needed out of that environment. I have worked with several feral/timid cats and always succeeded.
I have contacted a different facility and with the references I have provided and an explanation of what the cat's living conditions will be I am able to adopt.
This place is overcrowded. Adopt if you can. But call first to see if your living conditions match their criteria. Otherwise, you might waste a lot of time.

Got my cat Aiko here 2 years ago, we were a perfect match. She's the sweetest cat. The staff was very helpful and caring. One of the most professional shelters I've ever been to. The place and cages were clean. The animals seemed happy and cared for. No over crowding in cages.

They are awesome we love our new furry pet, Jersey.... He's so sweet, playful, adorable, & smart. They also sent us home with everything we needed for him, and all the information and resources we could use. Thank you to the staff at Help the Animals you all are awesome for what you do for all the animals that are abused or abandoned.

Just got Ziggy from here. This was the best adoption process I have been through. The workers were super kind and informative. It was a welcoming environment. They provided us with so many resources and a treat bag. So thankful for this experience!

I adopted my first dog after my husband passed away. She had been rescued by Help Center and had been neglected and abused. She was the greatest dog I have ever owned. Several weeks ago, she passed away. I went to Help the Animals again, just for grieving purposes, and came home with the sweetest one year old Jack/Parsons Russell you've ever seen! I'm so impressed with how well the animals are treated, as well as how I am treated, as a prospective pet parent! Great job folk's!

Found my new fur baby here. I love that they’re a no kill shelter. Animal shelters actually make me kind of sad because I want to adopt all the animals but I’m glad this shelter is here because you can tell they really care about the animals. Will be returning to help out however I can.

The ventilation in the building is terrible, and the staff wasn't very friendly either. I would've given them a one-star, but I believe in their mission. Save homeless and abused animals.

We found our most precious girl at the Help shelter. They are so great with adoption process and with taking care of the animals. Please before you buy a pet go check out the wonderful pets that need your love.
