Whole family loves this place. We go before it gets too busy and it’s perfect. 2 of our kids have done birthday parties there in the last few years and the staff has always been wonderful. We love the music they play and the kids love the air hockey table. We also love you can rollerblade or use roller skates.

On my way home we decided for a longer detour through Indiana and I’m glad we made that decision. We stopped at my 50th roller skating rink, Sk8 Word, located in Portage, Indiana!

We caught their Sunday session from 1:00pm - 9:00pm. When we arrived it wasn’t busy at all, which is cool for me. You can tell from the door how clean this rink/building was. From the snack bar to the restrooms to the skate floor. I was throughly impressed!

The floor was a maple rotunda! Say no more right!? Sold. After a few spins I was in heaven! To add to this heavenly effect, rules were announced so that skaters can learn skate etiquette. This is so important in their formative years! I can’t stress this enough. Their use of FEC Control Play was bonus points for me! Also the DJ might have been to a shuffle DJ or been to some shuffle events. The music on their random playlist was bangin’!

The floor measures 150 x 75 and it is well taken care of. I can’t stress this enough! It had shine, grip and some slip! 💯 They had some cool LED light effects going on too. I’m sad we didn’t stay longer but I’ll def put this place on my rinks to visit if I’m ever in Indiana.

As an experienced skater who has been skating since the age of 8, and having also worked at skating rinks previously. I can give my pros and cons:

Pros
- Clean and well-maintained rink. I LOVE the floor and can tell that it is well taken care of
- Staff was nice when I have visited (I live in Maryland and came to skate while in town visiting family, since I'm from here and also used to work for Roller Dome when it was open and Crystal Skate Place in Temple Hills, MD)
- Distance. Not too far from where my parents live in the area

Cons
- Song selection is very limited and outdated. I admit some of the songs I have heard when I visit reminded me of my youth and young adult days of roller skating, BUT if you say the music is family friendly, you have to keep in mind that today's kids are not like how we were as kids. The music has changed. Maybe try and update and mix the music up a bit. Some Top 50-100 Billboard songs, along with mixing in music from the 60s - 90s, so that everyone can enjoy the music.
- Music with a skateable beat. A lot of today's youth are trying to learn to skate, and also learn certain skate styles, and this requires songs with a beat to them, so that they can skate in rhythm. Just a suggestion.

I make these suggestions as someone who has been skating since he was 8 yrs old, and I'm 54 and still skating. I also have visited and skated at rinks throughout the United States, from West, South, North and East, and also attend National Skate Parties, so this is a humble review and suggestions from an experienced roller skater and former skate guard/DJ/security.

Met up with friends here. Had a great time! Food looked delicious, prices were fair and we enjoyed ourselves. Staff was all nice.

Attentive and pleasant staff, clean rink and restrooms. Dedicated snack area and mostly fun music the short time we were there. Worth a try!
